Undergraduate Students from the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences Win First Prize at the 6th National College Students' Natural Resources Technology Competition

From October 25 to 26, 2024, the finals of the 6th National College Students' Natural Resources Technology Competition, organized by the Chinese Society of Natural Resources, took place at Northwest Normal University. Two teams from the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences at Lanzhou University, the "Carbon Exploration Squad" (Yan Bijiao, Li Jiashuo, Yang Huayu, Pu Yue) and the "Boundless Wind and Solar Team" (Xiang Yiyang, Zhang Kaiwen, Liu Qing, Xin Wenjia), stood out among 68 national finalists and both won first prizes.

Under the dedicated guidance of their teachers, the "Carbon Exploration Squad" and the "Boundless Wind and Solar Team" collaborated closely and prepared thoroughly before the competition. During the finals, they performed confidently and showcased their talents, ultimately both achieving first prize in the competition.

Yan Bijiao, captain of the "Carbon Exploration Squad," expressed gratitude:“We are thankful to the Chinese Society of Natural Resources for this opportunity, which allowed us to embrace the‘green’mission and gain a deeper understanding of the vital connection between high-quality development of natural resources and new productive forces. Special thanks to our instructors, Associate Professor Qiang Wenli and Professor Zhang Zilong, for their heartfelt guidance and support. From determining our topic to structuring our framework, from building models to writing papers, and from preparing the presentation slides for the finals to drafting our speeches, every team member was dedicated, coordinated, and continually learned new knowledge, helping each other and making progress together. In our future studies and research, we will continue to delve deeper and explore further.”

Xiang Yiyang, captain of the "Boundless Wind and Solar Team," stated:“After months of hard work, the competition has finally reached a successful conclusion. I sincerely thank our teacher Ye Weifeng, whose rigorous academic attitude and meticulous guidance illuminated our path, providing us with clear ideas and motivation to move forward. His teachings will benefit us for a lifetime. I also appreciate all my teammates for their efforts and contributions during this time. The mutual support and inspiration among teammates are invaluable treasures of this journey. Lastly, I extend my heartfelt thanks to the college for its encouragement and support, allowing us to shine in the field of scientific innovation.”

This year’s competition focused on the theme“Anchoring Natural Resources Technology Innovation, Empowering New Productive Forces,”aiming to enhance college students' scientific understanding of national natural resources, encourage a deep comprehension of the important relationship between high-quality development of natural resources and new productive forces, and stimulate students' enthusiasm and creativity in participating in the natural resources technology field. The event also aimed to improve the theoretical analysis and practical application skills of students in relevant majors and promote academic exchanges and collaboration among teachers and students from different institutions and disciplines, supporting the development of higher education in natural resources and the cultivation of scientific talent.

The School of Earth and Environmental Sciences at Lanzhou University actively encourages undergraduate students to participate in professional competitions and innovation training, guiding them to hone their skills on the competitive stage and shine in scientific innovation training.
