Expert Introduction:

Xu Chongyu is a professor in the Department of Earth Sciences, at the University of Oslo, Norway. Fellow of the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters, Fellow of the Norwegian Academy of Engineering. Honorary Professor of Beijing Normal University and Hohai University. He has long been engaged in global environmental change and hydrology and water resources response, and hydrological simulation studies at different times and spatial scales in different climate regions. He has won the World Meteorological Organization Outstanding Young Scientist Award, the Nordic Hydrological Association Lifetime Achievement Award, the International Water Association Publication Award, the Chinese Academy of Sciences overseas outstanding scholar, the Chinese Academy of Sciences overseas evaluation expert, IPCC assessment report evaluation expert, and the world's highly cited scientist.

Report Contents:

1) Global Water Security and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals: Water is the main medium through which climate change affects humans, the ecological environment, and the economy. Global water security is directly or indirectly related to many United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Water security is one of the top ten global issues facing the world, so water resources management is a global strategic issue. 2) Current situation and challenges of water security in China: China's water security is characterized by water shortage, uneven distribution in space and time, and low per capita possession; Man-made pollution exacerbates water shortages; Water utilization rate is low, waste is serious; Hydrological changes induced by climate change will exacerbate the challenges of sustainable water resources management. 3) The origin and development process of water cycle theory: The discussion on the origin and development of hydrology includes the exploration and understanding of hydrologic phenomena, hydrologic processes, hydrologic observation, and water cycle theory for thousands of years, and the theoretical support of modern hydrology science. 4) Frontier issues of hydrology and water resources research under changing environment: Discuss the challenges and methods of hydrology and water resources research and simulation under the new situation.
