To fully leverage the foundational role of academic competitions in fostering innovation and entrepreneurship talent, and to cultivate students' innovative awareness, teamwork, and engineering practical skills, the Second Gansu Province University Student GIS Mapping and Application Skills Competition was held on October 13, 2024, at Lanzhou Jiaotong University. This event was organized by the Gansu Provincial Department of Education and co-hosted by Lanzhou Jiaotong University and Northwest Normal University.
A total of 40 teams from GIS-related universities across the province participated, including 29 offline teams and 11 online teams, with 153 students and 49 instructors involved. The competition resulted in 2 first prizes, 6 second prizes, 8 third prizes, and 4 awards for excellent organization.
Our undergraduate students Ma Jian, Liao Yilong, Zhang Jinquan, and Xia Yebo received the first prize (instructor: Cui Xia); Li Zhuoxing, Yang Huayu, Wang Xin, and Ma Li secured the second prize (instructor: Xu Baorong); and Zhang Yuyang, Fu Xuan, Zhao Qingshan, and Xu Lingyue also received the second prize (instructor: Xu Baorong). The participating teams underwent extensive training and preparation prior to the competition, which gradually enhanced the individual capabilities of the competitors and improved collaboration among team members, laying a solid foundation for achieving commendable results. This competition promoted innovation, entrepreneurship, and collaborative learning among university students in the GIS field within the province, effectively advancing the cultivation of high-level application-oriented GIS professionals.
